April 2012 - Sport Relief Charity Football Match

On Friday 23rd of March the Sidings FC played a scratch side from Horner brothers Print Group Limited (where some of the players work) to help raise funds for sports relief.

Prizes were donated by the company, The Sidings Pub, and beer suppliers Marstons and H B Clarks of Sheffield.

Despite Horners side being a scratch team they played together like seasoned veterans with the match ending 2 -2 after normal time.  The game then went straight to penalty shoot outs and the Sidings team won.

Selling raffle tickets for the kindly donated prizes manage to raise £221 for Sport Relief.

September 2011 - Howard Webb Sidings Football Challenge

On Thursday 1st September the two Sidings football teams played their inaugural match for the Howard Webb Sidings Football Challenge cup.

Howard Webb, World Cup Referee and Brinsworth lad, refereed a match between Sidings FC and The Sidings Brinsworth, two new teams that have formed this year to play from and represent The Sidings Pub in Brinsworth.

Sidings FC won the match 1 – 0 after a tough, gritty, and much improved performance, in their first match against each other Sidings FC lost 10 - nil.

The match was played at the Aurora sports ground in Brinsworth, then all players supporters and officials went back to the pub for food, raffles and presentation of the Cup by Howard himself, to the winning team.

The Sidings staff had mixed emotions as it was decided to split their support between the two teams, blues and yellows, at least half the staff were celebrating at the end.  Poor old Wanda, the landlady was unfortunately supporting the loosing team and had to drink a double shot of Absinthe and Chilli Sambuca as forfeit.

All in all everybody had a great night, with a good match, great food and beer, Howard signing autographs and chatting to players and friends, and best of all, raising much needed funds for both teams.  Roll on next year for the re-match.

CAMRA

The team at the Sidings continue to strive to provide the best possible quality of drink, food and service, "winning awards and accreditations like this is so important to us to let us know we are doing the things right, and people appreciate the high standards we set for ourselves" said Wanda, the landlady.

May 2011 - Spring Sprung

What a great spring we had, not only is the food and drink selling well, we had a wonderful celebration for St George's day with a BBQ on the patio area at the front.

We have catered for a number of wedding receptions, anniversaries and birthdays, through the spring, with menus being tailored to suit the customer needs. If you are thinking of a celebration for whatever reason, please give us a call on 01709 296024.

We continue to try to keep our menus both seasonal and based on traditional English ingredients and recipes. We regularly review our menu and make some changes and improvements, have a look at the Eat Page and download the current menu. (Subject to change)

As keen enthusiasts of offering the best possible products and service to our customers we are proud to announce that we have been accredited to the highly prestigious Cask Marque standard for our cask ales, and we have been awarded the maximum 5 stars for our Food Hygiene standards.  Ratings can be viewed on the Scores on The Doors web site. Well done to all the staff who have worked hard to get to and maintain these standards.

December 2010

We managed to open on the re-scheduled day of Thursday 9th of December, thanks to a huge effort by all concerned in the refurbishment works. Food service started on the Friday.  The only work still to finish is the relaying of the patio area at the front of the pub, the workmen have been unable to work at all for the past week or so due to the weather.

The official opening was also a great success with Howard Webb doing the honours. The food samples went down a treat with the large number of customers that came along to help us celebrate.

Considering the pub had been closed since April this year, we have all been amazed at how well it has taken off, food sales continue to increase daily with excellent positive feedback being received.  Non food sales are also doing brilliantly, particularly our range of cask ales.  Just one of the many positive comments we have received came in the first few days of being open, from Cameron Newton, aged 10 “This is a 5 star pub in my opinion”. Thanks Cameron, we agree.

For those of you that have not tried us so far, please do come along and give us a go, and let us know what you think, ask for Stuart, Wanda, Les, Tony or John.

5th December 2010

Well all as you can see from the photos the refurbishment is progressing at a heck of a rate. But there is still loads to do! We are all keeping our finger crossed, but unless something catastrophic happens we will be open at 5pm on Thursday.

The official opening is taking place on Friday 17th with Howard Webb, Brinsworth born world cup referee, doing the honours. We will also have a senior executive from Marstons brewery who are our lead suppliers, at the official opening, how could they refuse to come to be part of the celebration when John Fox, co-owner of Foxman Pubs, has a son named Marston after their beer.

On the official opening day, Friday 17th, there will be food samples available between 1.00pm and 2.30pm and 5.00pm to 6.30pm. All are welcome to join us and see what you think.

1st December 2010

The full refurbishment was planned to take 2 weeks but it looks like the snow has extended that a day or so. As of today, 1st December, we are aiming to be open on Wednesday 8th or Thursday 9th of December, watch our homepage for updates.

The refurbishment will include a full re fit of all upholstery, new furniture, painting and decorating throughout, new carpets and all new pumps and lines from the cellar. All this is well on the way. A lovely multi fuel burning stove will be fitted in the lounge as an addition to the new heating system we have installed.

We will be serving a full range of beers wines and spirits including a number of Marstons products as well as regular favourites such as John Smiths and Tetleys smooth, Carling and Carlsberg, with Stella as the premium lager. We will be stocking up to 6 cask, hand pulled ales mixing national well know favourites, such as Marston Pedigree, and Hobgoblin with locally brewed ales. We will also have Old Rosie, scrumpy cider on draft and as well as Thatchers Gold cider.

Recruitment is now nearly complete, the landlord will be Stuart Hopkinson, supported by his wife Wanda, he has many years experience running both drinking and dining pubs as well as hotels.

All bar, waiting and cleaning staff are locals, most of whom live within walking distance.

The Sidings team can’t wait to welcome you to the new pub, so see you all next week, on Wednesday or Thursday, watch this space.
